On a Shared Hosting, I am concerned about the compatibility of the HMWP with some free and the premium security and firewall plugins, and so I would like to know the best settings for security, performance and compatibility. Here are my concerns:
(1). What are the best settings to enable or disable on the FREE and on the PAID iThemes Security plugin ALONE (at https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/ and at https://ithemes.com/security/ ) with HMWP?
(2). What are the best settings to enable or disable on the All-in-One-WP-Security plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/ ALONE with HMWP?
(3). What are the best settings to enable or disable in the FREE NinjaFirewall (WP Edition) plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/ninjafirewall/) and, or in the PAID NinjaFirewall WP+ Edition at https://nintechnet.com/ninjafirewall/wp-edition/ ) plugin ALONE with HMWP?
(4). On a WP site with ALL OFHMWP and iThemes Security and All In One WP Security & Firewall plugins what are the best settings to enable or disable?
(5). On a WP site with BOTH HMWP and iThemes Security and NinjaFirewall (WP Edition) and, or in the NinjaFirewall WP+ Edition?
(6). What are the best settings to enable or disable on the FREE BulletProof Security plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulletproof-security/ and, or its PAID version i.e. BulletProof Security Pro at https://affiliates.ait-pro.com/po/ ALONE with HMWP?September 2, 2018 at 12:19 pm #23113Hi, HMWP is compatible with these security plugins. However, make sure that you don not enable common/similar feature in two or more plugins.
Also, why would you want to have all 3 security plugins iThemes security, Bulletproof security and All in one WP security? It’ll only complicate the things rather than making the site secure. We recommend you to have any one of these plugins along with HMWP.
September 2, 2018 at 2:03 pm #23118Hello,
I did not say I wanted iThemes security and BPS and All in one WP security on the same site. the closes to that is to combine iThemes Security with the All in one WP security plugin, just because certain features are more user friendly on one than on the other. Besides, certain features are present in one but are not present in the other. The good thing is that both plugins allow one to turn specific features ON/OFF so one can use specific features only from one of them.
Back to my concerns, since the names of features on iThemes and All-In-One Security may not be the same as there are on the HMWP, kindly mention specific options to turn ON/OFF on the plugins to avoid conflicts or break(s) on the Site?September 2, 2018 at 3:21 pm #23122Hi, we recommend you to apply these settings in HMWP:
– in HMWP start tab, set ‘Medium Privacy – More Compatibility’ scheme and save the settings
– in HMWP permalinks & urls tab, set “rename plugins” option to “all plugins” and save the settingsNote: Assuming that it’s WP single site and Apache server. Your site’s htaccess file should be writable. After applying above settings the backend login URL will be http://www.YourDomain.com/wp-login.php?hide_my_wp=1234 (you can change secret code “hide_my_wp=1234” from general settings tab)
