This continues our discussion of member login error from the theme comments …
Just a recap …
After testing my site, I find that users cannot login to the membership area anymore.
Also, the same error message shows for new member registration. There’s a blank page with an error message. I’m using Restrict Content Pro plugin.
I’ve tried “Trusted User Roles” for the users in HMWP general settings tab and it still doesn’t work. The same error message still shows.“ERROR: Sorry, there was an error. Please be sure JavaScript and Cookies are enabled in your browser and try again.”
I’ve tried Light Privacy, and both Medium Privacy options. All have the same error message for login and register forms.
Just a quick note, Medium Privacy – Quick option would actually turn my site into a white blank page as well.********************
As for your question … Is it Apache web server? And is your site’s htaccess file writeable? … I don’t really understand. Also, where can I set the reply as private? I can’t see the option anywhere in this reply editor.
August 28, 2015 at 6:32 pm #4327Just checked and my site server uses the latest version of Apache.

August 29, 2015 at 5:18 am #4330Hi, you can make the post private by checking “Set as private reply” checkbox option in bottom right of the text area.
And try giving write access to htaccess file and then apply medium privacy settings. And if it’s WP Multisite, you need to update htaccess manually. Please follow the instructions provided in documentation (available within downloaded plugin folder)August 29, 2015 at 5:29 am #4331I don’t know where you are referring to for

September 3, 2015 at 6:59 pm #4439I manually configured htaccess and that solved the problem!
You probably need to do that after changing theme or installing new plugins. Just go to General tab > Customized htaccess and click on the link. Follow instruction in start tab and update htaccess file.
In case of login it was an issue with Limit Login Attempt. I disabled it and now everybody can login. Please note HMWP has the same feature so you don’t need to use both!
This is your new login address:

Delete previous HMWP rules and add new rules.
– the last step saying to add those lines: you have to add those lines in your site’s htaccess file (located in your site’s root folder). You can use FTP to update it.
