I am upgrading from v3 to v5 of HMWP. I get the following message at the top of the setup page: It seems there is no writable htaccess file in your WP directory.
I do have an htaccess file and it is writable 777.
When I proceed with medium settings, the site CSS breaks.
What should I do?

Can you please let us know your site’s FTP details as private reply so that we can look further into the issue.

March 20, 2017 at 10:26 pm #15272Hi Suman,
I’m really hoping there is some good news? I have purchased 30 licenses of HMWP. This is the only site with an error. I hope you can help please.

First very sorry for delay,
It was fixed now,
It was a problem in WP installation. There are two methods to install WP in a subdirectory. Read here:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_DirectoryHMWP usually works well with both of them but as it doesn’t access to htaccess it couldn’t make it work. I think there was a small bug in one of your htaccess files, too.
Anyway, I changed your setup to go with first method which is easier. Then manually configured HMWP.
Regarding writable htaccess, it’s probably caused by suexec which is a more strict version of PHP, read more:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_PermissionsPlease note as long as htaccess is not writable you need to manually configure HMWP after changing its settings, activating new theme (and installing new plugin if you enabled renamed plugin folders feature)
To configure HMWP manually go here: HMWP > General Settings> Customized htaccess > Manual Configuration. The same result can be achieved by going to Permalink page from WP settings.
Sorry again for any inconvenience,
HassanMarch 26, 2017 at 3:40 pm #15332Thank you.
What is my WP login URL?March 27, 2017 at 2:11 pm #15336Please ignore my last question. I see you changed the login back to the default URL.
“Regarding writable htaccess, it’s probably caused by suexec which is a more strict version of PHP, read more:”
I’m wondering how this is possible. I have 20 WP sites on the same server all using HMWP no problem with htcaccess.
